Wooden heels are a summer staple and the cult classic has returned to the Spring/Summer catwalks 2010, and is proven to be one of the hottest trends next season. I know we've still not got through the winter and already we're talking about summer, but in the words of la Wintour “Fashion isn’t about looking back, it’s always about looking forward”. I've been a fan of this retro trend for a long time, it's such a timeless piece, and for me it shouldn't just be kept for the sun. A chunky platform paired with neutral cloured woolen tights are the perfect blend for these chilly winter days. From Cavalli to Miu Miu, any designer of note was parading the wooden heel however putting an avant-garde twist on it. Alberta Ferretti reinvented the ordinary with fine leather detailing atop an inverted wooden wedge (below: image 4) And the shoes at Celine were tall wooden wedges which add height whilst having the foot inclined only at a low angle. There are no set rules here, there are tons of ways to wear the wood, just be brave and have fun!

Ok, lets be realistic, I doubt i'll be splashing my Christmas cash (what little I have left of it) on these sandals which breaks my heart as I already had an outfit planned to accompany them. But don't fret you wooden heel lovers, the highstreet once again is our saviour! I found these little beauts on the Topshop website and instantly fell in love (again). At a reasonable price and with a timeless style I know i'll get my walk out of them. Any of these will do - whether it be Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn!

The dark chunky wood paired with the delicate designs and pastel shades create a match made in heaven. Wear with black opaque tights (40 denier +) and rich fabrics such as crushed velvet, cashmere or lace for a bang on trend effortless look.
