Pale Nails

This years Spring/Summer catwalks were awash with pretty pastel shades, from Miu Miu's cute printed minis to Viktor & Rolf's extravagant tulle structures, any designer of note was delving into this ice-cream pallete.

Why stop with sugar-coated clothes? Let's dress up our nails in soft pastels.

I recently purchased Barry M's 'Lemon Ice Cream' and 'Mint Green' nail varnish. The colours are so quirky and it applys like a treat, however it is a tad thin so i'd recommend at least two coats, but i'm not complaining as I bagged the two for only £5. The newest collection consists of the five shades below which are all beautiful if you're wanting to complete the pastel look this summer.

Happy Hippo?

Featured in this week's edition of the Style magazine was a photo of Marina Diamandis (Marina and the Diamonds) sporting a very outrageous dress created by the surrealist designer Yang Du. Before this, i'd never heard of this designer, but I instantly fell in love with this hippo dress and I had to see more.

Are you loving or hating the Hippo?
I happen to be a fan and wouldn't mind a little dress of my own - size 8 please.

Ok, so I don't suggest that you go and purchase a Yang Du anytime soon, but Marina pulls it off with her rock chic demeaner and that "just got out of bed" hair - so long Gaga! You've got to own the dress if you want to get away with it, so pair it with some chunky wooden platforms and a statement bag like Miss Diamodis does. This thing's got teeth baby.

Just a quick one.

You've seen a few posts like this one, but I always feel that I should apologise when I haven't blogged for a while. I've been so stressed lately with my art because i've got my photo exam next week, and my textiles exam the week after that - i'm trying, but kind of failing in time management, hence the reason i've been abandoning you.

Here's something to keep you going, whilst I fret over work and try to find some time for Pretty Girls. As you'll probably be aware, lately I just can't get enough of the S/S '10 trend: clogs. I splashed my cash on a pair from Topshop (similar to the Chanel ones modeled by Miss Chung) but i'm now looking for something more suitable for these sunny days. I'm not a great fan of exposed toes, but if the right shoe came along (see below) i'd be willing. The first pair, 'Woody Wood suede wedges' from Topshop are priced at a mere £50, and the wedge means they'll be perfect for both the beach and long (not too long however) walks through the park. I love the neutral colour too, pastels are must this summer girls and boys!

£50 Topshop

This pair of 'Swedish Hasbeens' are also a favourite of mine, however are a little too pricey - £149 - but they sure look so comfy. Grab yourself a pair of clog sandals to ensure cool feet this Summer.

Claps for Clips

Gone are the days when pierced ears were seen as a necessity for glamour and style. This season's catwalks said 'hello' to statement jewellery - which happily complimented the ditsy prints and delicate pastels - with the focus on jewels for the ears. Lobes were dressed up in heavy, bold, bright statement clip-ons - goodbye sore and stretched ears, it's all about the clip. I myself am a virgin of pierced ears and I will often indulge in a pair of clip-ons now and then, but I find myself raiding vintage fairs and charity shops for these as high street shops just don't seem to stock clip-on earings (well there's not enough of them and if I do happen to stumble across a pair, they'll be so hideous and bargain bucket worthy!) Whilst browsing style.com for my weekly fashion fix, I noticed that big earings were the, well, big thing. Below is just a small selection of designers who worked the style.

Andrew Gn; Proenza Schouler

Rachel Comey
Although i'd love a pair of Rachel Comey's vintage inspired clip-ons (she plans to sell them in packs of five) I am a student and my pennies just won't stretch that far, but luckily i've found some alternatives for the money

Nicholas Kirkwood and Rodarte

Nicholas Kirkwood is constantly gaining points for his innovative shoes designs and is already said to have joined the big shoe trio which includes Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo. The 28 year-old Central St. Martins graduate is known for his edgy, jagged platforms, however the heels featured in his latest collection take on a more delicate form, giving the effect of melted wax. The collaboration with the Rodarte designers, which was based heavily upon the theme of  'sleepwalking', works so beautifully because Kirkwood's heels slightly glow, as if lit, in the dark. Overall, another hit collaboration for Nicholas Kirkwood and Rodarte. Take a look.

Olivia Bee

I don't know what to say. I'm in amazement. To think these beautiful and delicate pieces of art have been created by someone so young of age - 15. I came across Olivia Bee on the Dazed and Confused website, yes you heard me right, little Liv appearing in such a prestigiuos art magazine, but she's appeared in many more publications.
Here's just a very SMALL SMALL SMALL sample of Olivia's work taken from her website, which I recommend you visit.

I can honestly say I've been inspired by Olivia Bee.

18.

18 years ago today, I was born, Katy Philippa Jackson. 18 years on, still that average blue-eyed girl, nothing great to my name, apart from a loving family, wonderful friends, and a life I should be completely grateful for. I often complain how I want things to be perfect and how nothing will ever be enough for me, but truthfully I think i'm just scared to admit that things are glorious, the way they are. Anyway, I just want to take this opportunity to thank people/events/places etc, for the wonderful life i've experienced so far - and I know that it will continue to be wonderful. Ok, so I may be an average 18 year old, but i've got years and years to become something a lot. I'm going to make my mark on the world (not too hard to damage it though) Just watch this space.

I feel like I should be giving you a recount of my life so far, but i'd hate to bore you, also it's been quite an action packed life and to be honest I can hardly remember most things.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. Now i'm going to celebrate!

-apologies for any spelling mistakes - this is my first (of many) post as an 18 year old, and so I can get away with it-
